Description

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-Conti 2009 is one of Burgundy’s most coveted wines, drawn from a legendary Grand Cru vineyard that has defined Pinot Noir at its highest level for centuries. In this extraordinary vintage, it shows the house’s signature combination of power, finesse, and rare aromatic depth. Revered as the “King of Burgundy,” Domaine de la Romanée-Conti represents the pinnacle of French fine wine.

Tasting Notes
The 2009 Romanée-Conti is intensely layered and captivating, with a deep, luminous ruby hue that hints at its concentration and elegance. On the nose, it unfolds gradually with dark wild cherries, sweet spice, mint, fresh flowers, and a subtle earthy complexity that keeps revealing itself with each swirl. The palate is seamless and multi-dimensional, combining seductive fruit richness with precision, minerality, and a beautifully restrained structure. Despite its openness in youth, it remains elusive and inward, finishing with remarkable length and harmony. This is a wine with immense aging potential, and Robert Parker suggested a drinking window extending to 2059.

Production
Romanée-Conti comes from one of the most famous Grand Cru vineyards in Vosne-Romanée, Burgundy, where the domaine works with exceptional old vines and extremely low yields. The estate has long embraced organic farming, with biodynamic principles also influencing the work in the vineyard, while massal selection and strict pruning help preserve the vineyard’s unique character. Grapes are harvested by hand and rigorously sorted before fermentation, which takes place in traditional large wooden vats with minimal intervention. After fermentation, the wine is transferred to 100% new oak barrels, where it matures for 16 to 18 months before bottling. The approach in the cellar is deliberately restrained, allowing the purity of the fruit and the identity of the terroir to remain at the center of the wine.

Food & Serving
This is a wine to pair with refined, elegant dishes rather than heavy flavors: roast duck, pigeon, veal tenderloin, truffle dishes, wild mushroom risotto, or fine game birds are all excellent choices. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant gently if needed, though very old or delicate bottles should be handled with care to preserve their fragrance and nuance.

Producer
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, based in Vosne-Romanée, is one of Burgundy’s most historic and prestigious estates, with roots tracing back to the 13th century. The domaine owns only Grand Cru vineyards and is widely regarded as the benchmark for Pinot Noir in Burgundy. Under the long leadership of Aubert de Villaine, alongside deep continuity in the cellar and vineyard, the estate has become synonymous with uncompromising quality, extraordinary scarcity, and some of the world’s most celebrated wines.
