Zenato, Lugana Riserva Sel. Sergio 2022 White

Zenato’s Lugana Riserva Sel. Sergio 2022 is a richer, more complex expression of the Lugana style, showing the depth that Turbiana can achieve in the hands of one of Veneto’s most respected family producers. Crafted from late-harvested grapes and partially aged sur lie, it combines elegance with impressive structure and a nod to the estate’s long-standing dedication to the Lugana zone.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this white wine is typically bright and luminous, with a refined, polished appearance that hints at its concentration. The nose opens with floral notes, honey, spice, and ripe tropical fruit, giving it an inviting aromatic complexity. On the palate, it is full-bodied and layered, with a rich texture, excellent balance, and notable structure. The late harvest adds depth and ripeness, while the sur lie aging contributes extra complexity and a creamy sense of harmony. A subtle almond note carries through the finish, and the wine has the concentration to develop beautifully with a little time in bottle.

Production
Zenato’s vineyards are spread across two key estates in Veneto, with the S. Cristina property in San Benedetto playing the central role for Lugana production. Here, the focus is on Turbiana vines planted on the local terroir around Lake Garda, where the climate helps preserve freshness while allowing full ripeness. For this Riserva, the grapes are harvested late, and part of the wine is matured sur lie to build texture and complexity before release.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for richer seafood dishes, roasted poultry, creamy risotto, and mature cheeses, as well as refined vegetarian plates with herbs or truffle. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C to allow the aromas and texture to show at their best. Decanting is not usually necessary, but a short aeration can help open the wine if served relatively young.

Zenato is one of Veneto’s most admired family estates, with more than 60 years of history beginning when Sergio Zenato planted the first vines in San Benedetto. Today, his children Alberto and Nadia continue the family legacy, guiding the estate across around 95 hectares in Lugana and Valpolicella. Zenato is especially valued for its ability to produce wines that range from fresh, precise Lugana to powerful, age-worthy Amarone, earning a strong reputation both locally and internationally.
