Zenato, Amarone Riserva Sergio 2018

Zenato’s Amarone Riserva Sergio 2018 is a flagship wine from Valpolicella, crafted from the estate’s finest hand-harvested grapes and made in the classic Amarone style. It reflects more than 60 years of family winemaking tradition, combining richness, elegance, and the unmistakable depth that has made Amarone one of Italy’s most celebrated reds.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red color with refined hints of aromatic spice. The bouquet is generous and inviting, with ripe dark fruit, dried cherry, and subtle notes of chocolate and warm spice. On the palate, the wine is powerful yet remarkably polished, with layers of wild cherries, cocoa, and rich, warming fruit wrapped in a smooth, elegant structure. Thanks to its concentration and balance, this Riserva has excellent aging potential and will continue to develop complexity over many years.

Production
The grapes come from Zenato’s Costalunga estate in Valpolicella, where the focus is on the house’s red wines. Only the best and ripest Corvina grapes are selected, complemented by small amounts of Rondinella and Sangiovese, then hand-harvested and carefully dried for several months to concentrate flavor and sweetness. After fermentation, the wine is matured for four years in Slavonian oak casks and then aged a further 12 months in bottle before release.

Food & Serving
This is a superb match for rich dishes such as braised beef, game, roast lamb, mature hard cheeses, or hearty mushroom-based cuisine. Serve at around 18°C, and decanting for at least 1–2 hours is recommended to allow the wine’s full aromatic complexity and texture to unfold.

Zenato is one of Veneto’s most respected family estates, founded more than 60 years ago when Sergio Zenato planted the first vines in San Benedetto. Today, his children Alberto and Nadia continue the family legacy across the S. Cristina and Costalunga estates, producing a wide range of wines from crisp Lugana to powerful Amarone. The winery is especially admired for its commitment to quality and its strong place in the Valpolicella region.
