Description
Zaccagnini Pecorino Chronicon is a crisp and elegant white wine from Abruzzo that showcases the character of the native Pecorino grape. Produced by Zaccagnini Ciccio in the hills of Bolognano, it combines freshness, finesse, and a distinctly Italian sense of place.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a brilliant straw-yellow color with subtle antique-gold reflections. The nose is inviting and aromatic, with notes of bitter almond, honeysuckle, gooseberry, and winter pear, followed by a clean citrus lift.
On the palate, the wine is balanced and precise, with a smooth, consistent texture supported by bright, refreshing acidity. The finish is marked by pleasant citrus notes and a lightly mineral, almond-tinged character. With its lively structure and stainless-steel purity, it is best enjoyed young while its freshness is at its peak, though it will hold nicely in the short term.
Production
The wine comes from Abruzzo, where the Pecorino grape thrives in the region’s sunny hills and traditional vineyard landscapes. Zaccagnini’s vineyards in Bolognano benefit from a terroir shaped by altitude, good air circulation, and the natural freshness of the area, helping preserve aromatic intensity and acidity.
Harvested to retain vibrancy, the wine is vinified in stainless steel and aged for around three months in tank. This careful, non-intrusive approach preserves the varietal purity of Pecorino and emphasizes its crisp, expressive style.
Food & Serving
This is a versatile food wine that works beautifully with seafood, shellfish, grilled fish, light pasta dishes, risotto, and fresh goat cheese. It also pairs well with vegetable-based Mediterranean dishes and simple antipasti. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C, and decanting is not necessary.
