Description

Williams Selyem Anderson Valley Pinot Noir 2023 is a beautifully nuanced expression of one of California’s most characterful cool-climate regions. Bringing together fruit from Conzelman, Ferrington, and Purcell vineyards, it combines wild aromatic complexity with the refined structure that has made Williams Selyem a benchmark producer for Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Pinot Noir shows a vivid, polished profile with a dark-fruited core and a lifted, savory edge. The nose is especially distinctive, opening with fresh herbal notes of pennyroyal alongside subtle pine and evergreen accents that speak clearly of Anderson Valley’s signature character. The palate follows with juicy blueberry and plum flavors wrapped in finely textured tannins and a graceful line of acidity. A gentle touch of bitterness on the finish adds depth and length, giving the wine both elegance and definition. While already expressive, it should also develop beautifully over the next several years, gaining more nuance and aromatic complexity with time.

Production
This wine is sourced from three well-regarded Anderson Valley sites—Conzelman, Ferrington, and Purcell—each contributing to the blend’s sense of place and layered complexity. Anderson Valley’s cool maritime influence and varied vineyard exposures help preserve freshness while allowing Pinot Noir to build flavor slowly and evenly. The result is a wine that reflects both the valley’s wild, aromatic landscape and Williams Selyem’s restrained, precise winemaking style.

Food & Serving
A versatile Pinot Noir like this pairs especially well with roasted duck, mushroom risotto, herb-crusted salmon, or roast chicken with earthy vegetables. It should be served slightly cool, ideally around 14–16°C, to best highlight its aromatic lift and fine structure. Decanting is not essential, but a brief aeration can help open the wine if enjoying it young.

Producer
Williams Selyem is one of California’s most respected Pinot Noir producers, widely credited with helping define the state’s modern reputation for world-class, site-driven Pinot Noir. Founded in Sonoma County and long associated with meticulous vineyard selection and low-intervention winemaking, the winery has earned a devoted following for its elegance, precision, and age-worthy wines. Its Anderson Valley bottling continues that tradition with a fresh, terroir-driven perspective.
