Wente, Riva Ranch Chardonnay 2024 White

Wente Riva Ranch Chardonnay 2024 is a rich yet beautifully balanced expression of Arroyo Seco, combining ripe California fruit with refreshing acidity and creamy oak complexity. Made by one of California’s pioneering wine families, this single-vineyard Chardonnay reflects Wente’s long-standing connection to the region and its historic role in establishing Chardonnay in the state.

Tasting Notes
Bright and inviting in the glass, this full-bodied Chardonnay offers an expressive nose of crisp apple and pear, layered with tropical fruit, stone fruit and subtle creamy oak. On the palate, it is generous and rounded, with flavours of ripe orchard fruit and tropical notes supported by lively freshness. The oak influence adds a smooth, creamy texture without overwhelming the fruit, leading to a long, well-balanced finish. It is delicious in its youth, while its balance and structure should allow it to develop further over the next few years.

Production
The grapes come from Wente’s Riva Ranch vineyard in Arroyo Seco, Monterey, an area shaped by cool morning fog, abundant afternoon sunshine and a long, even growing season. The wine is primarily made from Chardonnay, complemented by a small proportion of Gewürztraminer. Around 90% of the wine is fermented in oak barrels to enhance its richness and creamy texture, while the remainder is fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness and fruit character. The result is a polished balance of tropical fruit, bright acidity and gentle oak-driven creaminess.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 10–12°C. Its richness and freshness make it an excellent partner for roast chicken, grilled or pan-seared fish, seafood in creamy sauces, lobster, scallops and mildly spiced Asian dishes. It also pairs well with creamy pasta and soft, semi-firm cheeses. Decanting is not essential, but allowing the wine to breathe in the glass for 15–20 minutes can help its fruit and creamy oak notes open up.

Founded in 1908 by German immigrant C.H. Wente, Wente Vineyards planted some of the first Chardonnay vines in Livermore Valley. The family later expanded into Arroyo Seco and Monterey, and the winery is now led by the fifth generation. With more than 3,000 hectares of vineyards, Wente is one of the most significant names in modern Californian wine and remains particularly proud of its historic Livermore Valley roots.
