Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows exceptional clarity and focus, with a finely etched aroma profile that reflects the vineyard’s iron-rich soils. The nose unfolds with vivid lemon, fresh citrus zest, and a layered mix of crisp orchard and stone fruit, all carried by a cool, mineral tone. On the palate, the wine is concentrated and beautifully balanced, combining ripe fruit with a lively, incisive acidity. A creamy texture softens the tension, while the long, persistent finish highlights the impressive depth and extract from the grapes. It is already highly impressive, but it also has excellent aging potential and should gain complexity with time in bottle.

Production
The Rothenberg vineyard is one of the world’s oldest classified sites, first recognized in 1867 and later elevated to VDP Grosse Lage status, Germany’s equivalent of Grand Cru. Located in Geisenheim in the Rheingau, the slope faces south-southwest at around 40%, giving the vines ideal sun exposure and excellent ripening conditions. The red iron oxide in the soil gives the site its name and contributes to the wine’s distinct mineral character. The grapes are vinified to preserve precision, site expression, and the concentrated fruit typical of this exceptional vineyard.

Food & Serving
This is a wine that deserves thoughtful food pairing, especially with refined dishes such as roast poultry, veal, lobster, turbot, or rich seafood preparations with a citrus or buttered sauce. It also works beautifully with Asian dishes that balance freshness and spice, or with aged cheeses. Serve well chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and consider brief decanting if opening young, although it can also be enjoyed straight from the bottle.
