Weingut Rudolf May’s Silvaner Langenberg Alte Reben Erste Lage is a site-driven Franconian white wine with real pedigree, drawn from one of the family’s closest and most cherished vineyards. The combination of old Silvaner vines, steep slopes, and the VDP Erste Lage classification gives it both precision and depth, while the historic Langenberg site adds a strong sense of place.

Tasting Notes
Expect a pale, crystalline white with a fresh, elegant profile and a distinctly mineral edge. On the nose, it typically shows subtle orchard fruit, herbs, and a cool stony character, while the palate is dry, focused, and finely textured, with a saline, chalky finish that reflects the limestone-rich site. Thanks to the concentration of old vines and the vineyard’s strong structure, it should also develop beautifully with a few years of cellaring.

Production
The Retzstadter Langenberg rises above the village on steep southwest to southeast-facing slopes and is protected by wooded hilltops to the north, creating an ideal microclimate for Silvaner. Its poor soils of Wellenkalk, a distinctive formation of lower shell limestone, warm quickly in summer and help produce wines with tension and mineral definition. The grapes are harvested by hand, then left on the skins for around 18 hours before being gently pressed to preserve freshness and vineyard character.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile food wine that shines with classic Franconian dishes, asparagus, freshwater fish, roasted poultry, and refined vegetable cuisine. Serve it well chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and consider a short decant if serving very young to let the aromatics open up.
