Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a pale, bright straw-yellow color with greenish reflections, signaling both youth and freshness. Swirl the glass and you’re met by a refined, initially restrained nose: cool, stony minerality, hints of crushed rock and chalk, delicate yellow fruit (lemon zest, quince, mirabelle), along with subtle herbal nuances reminiscent of fresh coriander, wild herbs and a faint peppery lift. On the palate, the Saumagen GG is bone-dry, tightly woven and deeply structured. A firm, ripe core of citrus and stone fruit is wrapped in a filigree, linear acidity that carries the wine across the tongue with remarkable precision. The texture is both firm and elegant, with a fine phenolic grip and a lingering, salty-mineral finish that seems to grow with each sip. While already impressive in its youth, this Riesling is clearly built for the long haul; with proper cellaring, it should evolve beautifully over 10–15 years or more, gaining complexity, harmony and tertiary notes of honey, smoke and dried herbs.

Production
The Saumagen vineyard sits on south and south-east facing slopes at the foot of the Haardt mountains in the Pfalz, benefitting from abundant sunshine, protective forest influences and cool night-time temperatures. The topsoil is dominated by loess and calcareous marl, underpinned by solid limestone rock, giving the wines their signature cool, chalky-mineral profile and fine salinity. Weingut Rings cultivates this VDP.Große Lage organically, with careful manual work in the vineyard and selective hand harvesting at optimal ripeness. In the cellar, the grapes are gently pressed and the must is fermented slowly, typically with a significant proportion of indigenous yeasts, in stainless steel and/or large traditional vessels to preserve clarity and terroir expression. Extended lees contact and restrained intervention allow the wine to develop its depth, tension and textural finesse without losing its precision.
