A refined dry Riesling from Weingut Prinz von Hessen in Johannisberg, one of the Rheingau’s most respected Riesling villages. The 2023 vintage combines ripe yellow-fruit character with grapefruit freshness, while fermentation in both stainless steel and oak gives the wine added creaminess and harmony. With 95% of the estate’s plantings devoted to Riesling, this is a focused expression of the grape’s natural affinity for the Rheingau.

Tasting Notes
The wine opens with aromas of ripe yellow fruit, complemented by a subtle woody note. On the palate, it is creamy and rounded, showing flavours of yellow fruit and grapefruit, balanced by refreshing acidity. The extended maceration contributes to its harmonious texture, while the dry style keeps the finish bright and composed. It is approachable in its youth, but the combination of Riesling’s acidity and the wine’s balanced structure should allow it to develop further over the next few years when properly stored. Expect the fruit to become more integrated with time, with additional depth emerging as the wine matures.

Production
The grapes come from the Rheingau, a renowned German wine region situated along the 50th parallel, where the climate and site conditions are particularly well suited to Riesling. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks as well as oak barrels. A longer maceration period helped build the wine’s creamy texture and contributed to its notably harmonious character.

Food & Serving
Serve this dry Riesling lightly chilled at around 8–10°C. Its ripe fruit, grapefruit freshness and lively acidity make it a natural partner for seafood, grilled fish, poultry, creamy vegetable dishes and mildly spiced Asian cuisine. Decanting is not essential, although a brief period of aeration in the glass can help reveal its aromas and texture.
