Tasting Notes
In the glass, the Landgeflecht 2021 shows a bright, pale straw-yellow hue with greenish reflections, hinting at its youth and freshness. The nose opens with finely etched aromas of lime zest, green apple and white peach, interwoven with cool slate minerality, crushed herbs, and subtle floral notes of white blossom and chamomile. With a bit of air, hints of wet stone, citrus oil and a delicate smoky nuance unfold, adding complexity and depth. On the palate, this Rheingau Riesling is precise and focused, with a vibrant acidity that drives the wine forward without ever feeling sharp. Production
The Landgeflecht parcel lies on a slope within the renowned Doosberg Grosses Gewächs site in the Rheingau, where south to southwest exposures and well-drained, mineral-rich soils (with a mix of loess, quartzite and slate influences) provide ideal conditions for Riesling. The extremely high planting density of 7,000 vines per hectare ensures deep root competition, resulting in low yields and exceptional concentration. Weingut P.J. Kühn farms organically (and in practice often biodynamically), with careful handwork in the vineyard, including selective hand-harvesting at optimal ripeness. In the cellar, the grapes are gently pressed, and the must is allowed to ferment spontaneously with native yeasts, often in traditional large oak or stainless steel, depending on the cuvée’s needs. Extended time on the lees enhances texture and complexity, while minimal intervention preserves the purity of fruit and the clear imprint of the Doosberg terroir.
