Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2020 Landgeflecht shows a bright, luminous straw-yellow with greenish reflections, hinting at both freshness and concentration. The nose opens with crystalline citrus – lime zest, lemon peel and grapefruit – layered with white peach, green apple and delicate herbal notes of lemon balm and chamomile. With air, more complex undertones emerge: crushed slate, wet stone, white flowers and a touch of smoky reduction that speaks of serious terroir. On the palate, the wine is precise and tightly woven, with a focused, linear acidity that carries flavors of lime, ripe stone fruit and saline minerality across the tongue. It combines a vibrant, almost electric freshness with a fine, silky texture and impressive depth for its class. The finish is long, pure and mineral-driven, with a lingering impression of citrus oil and cool stone. Still youthful in 2020, this Riesling will benefit from a few years of bottle age and has the structure to evolve beautifully for 8–12 years, gaining complexity, gentle honeyed nuances and more pronounced smokiness over time.

Production
Landgeflecht comes from a steep hillside parcel within the esteemed Doosberg Grosses Gewächs vineyard in the Rheingau, characterized by deep loess and loam over quartzite and slate, which contribute both power and a pronounced mineral backbone. Here, approximately 7,000 vines per hectare are densely planted on just 3,000 square meters, encouraging deep root systems, natural competition and low yields of highly concentrated fruit. Weingut P.J. Kühn farms biodynamically, harvesting by hand in multiple passes to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy grapes are selected. In the cellar, the must is handled gently and fermented with native yeasts, often in traditional large wooden casks, with extended lees contact to build texture and complexity. The result is an unforced, terroir-driven Riesling that speaks clearly of its origin rather than of winemaking artifice.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile, gastronomic Riesling that shines alongside refined, subtly flavored dishes. Try it with ceviche or sashimi, steamed white fish with citrus and herbs, or classic pairings such as poached trout, scallops or crab. It also works beautifully with lightly spiced Asian cuisine, sushi, and delicate vegetable dishes like asparagus, fennel or spring greens, as well as mild goat’s cheese or fresh young cheeses.
