Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Riesling shows a bright, pale straw colour with greenish reflections, hinting at its youthful energy and precision. The nose is finely etched and detailed, opening with aromas of white peach, ripe grapefruit and lemon zest, framed by subtle yeasty undertones and a delicate herbal spice reminiscent of coriander and fresh garden herbs. A distinctive saline, stony note – like rain on warm river pebbles – runs through the bouquet and immediately signals the Ganz Horn site. On the palate, the wine is taut, linear and focused, with a cool, crystalline acidity that carries the fruit effortlessly across the tongue. Juicy citrus and stone fruit are wrapped around a core of pronounced minerality, giving the impression of depth without weight. The texture is fine and almost chalk-dusty, with that signature salty, pebble-like note echoing from nose to finish. Dry, precise and extremely persistent, this 2023 Ganz Horn has excellent aging potential; expect it to evolve beautifully over 10–15 years, gaining more complexity, texture and tertiary nuances of honey, smoke and dried herbs while retaining its mineral backbone.

Production
The Ganz Horn parcel sits at the upper edge of the renowned Im Sonnenschein vineyard in the southern Pfalz, where vines are rooted on a gravelly slope composed of pebbles, coloured sandstone (Buntsandstein), loam and sand. This mix is markedly different from the neighbouring Muschelkalk (shell limestone) parcels and gives the wine its particularly pure, linear and saline character. At Weingut Ökonomierat Rebholz, the grapes are farmed with great care and low yields, harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve natural acidity and aromatic precision. In the cellar, the philosophy is one of strict purism: gentle pressing, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and extended maturation on the lees, typically in stainless steel and/or large neutral oak, with minimal intervention. This careful, restrained approach allows the unique Ganz Horn terroir to speak clearly in the finished Großes Gewächs.

Food & Serving
This dry, mineral-driven Riesling is a superb partner for refined, subtly aromatic dishes. It pairs beautifully with shellfish such as oysters, scallops or prawns, as well as steamed or grilled white fish, sushi and sashimi, and delicate vegetable dishes like asparagus, fennel or artichokes. It also complements lightly spiced Asian cuisine and fine poultry, especially when prepared with citrus, fresh herbs or a touch of ginger. Serve at around 10–12°C to highlight its precision and aromatic detail. Young bottles benefit from a brief decant of 30–45 minutes to allow the mineral notes and fine herbal nuances to unfurl; as it ages, a slightly longer decant can further enhance complexity.
