Weingut Knipser’s Laumersheim Cuvée Gaudenz Trocken 2019 is a refined dry red from Germany’s Pfalz region, showcasing the estate’s talent for producing structured, internationally styled wines. Named after Gaudenz Knipser, it reflects the winery’s pioneering role in elevating premium red-wine production in Germany, particularly with Bordeaux-inspired cuvées.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby to garnet in colour, the wine opens with aromas of ripe blackberries, blackcurrants and dark cherries, complemented by hints of cedar, spice and subtle toast. The palate is dry and full-bodied, combining concentrated dark-fruit flavours with well-integrated tannins, balanced acidity and a gently savoury, persistent finish. The 2019 vintage offers both generosity and structure, making the wine approachable now with decanting while also allowing it to develop further in bottle. It should reward careful cellaring for several more years, gaining additional complexity and softness over time.

Production
Produced in Laumersheim in the Pfalz, where warm, relatively dry conditions and well-drained soils provide excellent ripening potential for red grapes, the cuvée is crafted in the Knipser style: ripe fruit, firm structure and measured use of oak. The grapes are carefully selected and harvested at optimum maturity, then traditionally fermented with extended contact on the skins before maturation in oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop depth and a polished texture.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for hearty dishes such as roast beef, venison, lamb, beef tenderloin and slow-cooked stews. It also works well with grilled vegetables, earthy mushroom dishes and mature hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C, and decant for 30–60 minutes before drinking, particularly while the wine is young, to open its aromas and soften its tannins.
