Description
Weingut Knipser’s Laumersheim Chardonnay-Weissburgunder Trocken 2024 brings together the generous character of Chardonnay and the approachable elegance of Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc). Dry, balanced and lively, it reflects the modern, quality-focused style of one of the Vorderpfalz’s most respected family-owned estates, whose history in Laumersheim dates back to 1876.
Tasting Notes
The wine typically shows a clear, pale golden appearance. Its discreetly spicy nose recalls freshly harvested hay, complemented by subtle fruit and a refined, gently rounded impression. On the palate, Chardonnay contributes body and richness, while Weissburgunder adds freshness, friendliness and balance. The finish is elegant and animated, making the wine especially appealing in its youth, although careful cellaring over the next two to three years should allow its texture and harmony to develop further.
Production
The grapes come from vineyards around Laumersheim, Großkarlbach and Dirmstein in the northern Vorderpfalz, where Knipser farms approximately 75 hectares. The wine is fermented in stainless-steel tanks at controlled temperatures, a careful approach designed to preserve the purity and individual character of the grapes. The combination of Chardonnay and Weissburgunder creates a harmonious blend of fullness, freshness and finesse.
Food & Serving
A natural partner for Vitello Tonnato, this dry white also works beautifully with poultry, grilled fish, seafood salads, asparagus and creamy pasta dishes. Serve well chilled at around 9–11°C. Decanting is not necessary; simply open shortly before serving to let its delicate aromas unfold.
Producer
Weingut Knipser has been a family-run estate in Laumersheim since 1876 and is now managed by Volker and Werner Knipser. Heinz Knipser was one of the region’s early pioneers of bottling wine, beginning in 1948, while the current generation introduced barrique vinification in the mid-1980s, expanded the estate’s red-wine production and renewed its focus on classic regional and international grape varieties. Today, the winery is recognised as a leading producer in the Vorderpfalz, with vineyards across Laumersheim, Großkarlbach and Dirmstein.
