Weingut Knipser’s Laumersheim Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2015 is a powerful yet refined red from Germany’s northern Vorderpfalz, showcasing the region’s ability to produce serious, age-worthy Bordeaux-inspired wines. Crafted by one of the area’s pioneering red-wine producers, it combines ripe fruit, subtle oak influence and polished structure in an elegant, balanced style.

Tasting Notes
The wine presents a deep ruby-red colour, leading into subtle aromas of blackcurrant, dark berries and cocoa, with a gently savoury, mature character. On the palate, ripe black berries meet flavours of mature red fruit, supported by juicy acidity and discreet, well-integrated tannins. Its 2015 vintage has had time to develop additional complexity and is enjoyable now, while careful cellaring can preserve its balance and mature character for several more years.

Production
The grapes come from vineyards around Laumersheim, Großkarlbach and Dirmstein in the northern Vorderpfalz, where the warm, dry climate helps Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot reach full ripeness. The grapes were destemmed and traditionally fermented on their skins to extract colour, flavour and structure, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine then matured for 24 months, primarily in used barriques, allowing the fruit to integrate with the oak while retaining freshness and elegance.

Food & Serving
A versatile partner for roast beef, grilled steak, venison, lamb and hearty mushroom dishes. It also works well with mature hard cheeses and richly flavoured Mediterranean cuisine. Serve slightly cool at around 16–18°C. Decant for approximately 30–60 minutes before serving to open the aromas and soften the wine’s structure, particularly if enjoying it in its youth.

Founded in 1876, Weingut Knipser is a family-run estate based in Laumersheim and farms approximately 75 hectares across the northern Vorderpfalz. Heinz Knipser was among the region’s early pioneers of bottling estate wine, beginning in 1948, while Volker and Werner Knipser later helped shape the estate’s modern identity by introducing barrique ageing, expanding red-wine production and planting classic regional and international varieties. Today, the winery is widely recognised for producing ambitious, terroir-conscious wines with particular strength in premium reds.
