Weingut Knipser’s Laumersheim Blauer Spätburgunder Trocken 2022 is a finely structured German Pinot Noir from the northern Pfalz. Combining bright red-fruit character with subtle cigar-box and espresso notes, it offers both elegance and depth. The Knipser family has been making wine in Laumersheim since 1876 and was among the region’s early pioneers of bottling its own wines.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a clear ruby-red appearance. Its nose opens with fresh redcurrants and cherries, followed by a subtle earthy depth. On the palate, it is both refined and powerful, with layered flavours of raspberry and cherry supported by good structure. Hints of cigar box and espresso powder add complexity and a gently savoury finish. Enjoyable now for its balance of fruit and structure, the wine should also develop additional savoury and tertiary nuances over the next few years when stored in suitable cellar conditions.

Production
The grapes come from vineyards around Laumersheim in the northern Pfalz, with Weingut Knipser also cultivating vines in Großkarlbach and Dirmstein. The Spätburgunder is made using classic yeast fermentation and matured for 12 months in used barriques, allowing the wine to gain texture and complexity while preserving the character of its red fruit.

Food & Serving
A versatile choice for roasted or grilled beef, pork and poultry. Serve slightly cool, at approximately 14–16°C, to highlight its freshness and aromatic detail. Decanting is not essential, but a brief decant of 20–30 minutes can help open the wine and bring its savoury nuances forward.

Founded in 1876, Weingut Knipser is a family-owned estate based in Laumersheim, between Grünstadt and Bad Dürkheim. Its vineyards cover approximately 75 hectares across Laumersheim, Großkarlbach and Dirmstein. Heinz Knipser began bottling the estate’s wines in 1948, while Volker and Werner Knipser later helped shape its modern identity by introducing barrique ageing, expanding red-wine production and working with both classic regional and international grape varieties.
