Description
Weingut in den Zehn Morgen’s Kreuznacher Pinot Noir 2020 is a finely tuned expression of German Pinot Noir, combining delicacy, spice, and striking freshness. Sourced from some of Nahe’s most characterful sites, it shows how the region’s terroir can bring a distinctly saline, energetic twist to this classic grape.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it displays Pinot Noir’s pale, translucent ruby hue, with an elegant, understated intensity. The nose opens with smoky, stony notes before revealing a bright red-fruited core of cherry, raspberry, strawberry, and blackberry.
The palate is juicy and mouthwatering, with vivid acidity that gives the wine a lifted, almost weightless feel. Fine spice and a subtle mineral edge add complexity, while the overall style remains precise and vibrant. It should drink beautifully now, but can also develop further nuance over the next few years.
Production
The grapes come from hand-harvested parcels in Kreuznacher Hofgarten and Pastorei, where a patchwork of soils - including stony and sandy elements, limestone, loess, and clay limestone - contributes depth and tension. The free-run juice and slow-press juice are matured separately for 12 months in a combination of new 300- and 500-liter oak barrels, then blended into the final cuvée and aged for a further 10 months in used barrels before bottling.
Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir is a natural match for duck, roast chicken, quail, mushroom risotto, or grilled salmon, as well as charcuterie and mild, earthy cheeses. Serve slightly cool, around 14-16°C, and consider a short decant of 20-30 minutes if opening it young to let the aromatics unfold.
Producer
Weingut in den Zehn Morgen is a respected Nahe estate known for crafting wines that express the region’s diversity with precision and character. The winery has earned recognition for producing expressive, terroir-driven bottles, and this Pinot Noir further underlines Nahe’s growing reputation as one of Germany’s most compelling areas for the variety.
