Weingut Hutter Smaragd Grauer Burgunder 2019 is a serious and gastronomic Wachau white wine, showing Pinot Gris at its most polished and expressive. Coming from one of Austria’s most prestigious regions and bottled under the Smaragd classification, it combines ripe fruit, minerality, and impressive depth with the precision Wachau is famous for.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a golden hue with faint silvery-green reflections. The nose is layered and inviting, opening with ripe pear, yellow apple, citrus, honeydew melon, and white flowers, followed by subtle notes of nuts, dried pear, and fresh herbs. The palate is full, creamy, and concentrated, with juicy stone fruit, fine minerality, and a beautifully balanced interplay between richness and freshness. The finish is long, elegant, and lightly spicy, with enough structure and depth to suggest excellent aging potential over the coming years.

Production
The grapes come from some of Hutter’s best terraced vineyards around Mautern in Wachau, where steep slopes, stony soils, and the warm 2019 growing season produced especially ripe and concentrated fruit. Vinification is carried out primarily in stainless steel to preserve precision and terroir expression, while extended lees aging adds texture, complexity, and extra weight to the wine.

Food & Serving
This is a highly versatile food wine that works especially well with roast chicken, veal, poultry in cream sauces, grilled fish, mushrooms, and richer vegetarian dishes. Serve it at around 10–12°C; decanting is not necessary, but a short time in the glass will help bring out its full aromatic range.
