Weingut Heiligenblut’s Silvaner Heimersheim 2022 is a characterful Rheinhessen white that puts this classic grape back in the spotlight. Sourced from chalk-rich vineyards in Heimersheim near Alzey, it reflects both the region’s deep Silvaner tradition and the Heiligenblut brothers’ low-intervention philosophy.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a bright yellow color with a slight natural haze, underscoring its unfiltered style. On the nose, it opens with a pronounced yeasty note at first, which gradually gives way to a more nuanced expression of Silvaner: fresh orchard fruit, subtle herbal tones, and a distinctly mineral edge. The palate is textured and lively, with chalk-driven freshness and a supple, almost creamy mid-palate from time spent in used barriques. It finishes dry, precise, and savory, with enough structure to develop beautifully over the next few years if stored well.

Production
The Silvaner vineyards lie in Heimersheim, a small suburb of Alzey in the Rheinhessen hills, where limestone-rich soils give the wine its fine mineral line. After around one week of skin contact, the must was pressed and transferred to used barriques for about eleven months. The wine was bottled as a blend of different barrels without fining, filtration, or added sulfur, in keeping with the estate’s low-intervention approach.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile food wine, especially with dishes that echo its fresh, savory profile: roast poultry, pork loin, creamy mushroom dishes, asparagus, root vegetables, or mature hard cheeses. Serve slightly chilled at 10–12°C; decanting is not essential, but a short aeration can help the wine’s yeast and mineral aromas open up more quickly.
