Weingut Hannes Sabathi’s Ried Loren Sauvignon Blanc showcases the refined, terroir-driven style of Südsteiermark. Sourced from steep Opok-rich slopes around Gamlitz, the 2017 vintage combines vibrant freshness with layered texture, mineral precision and an elegant, persistent finish. It is a distinctive expression of one of Austria’s most celebrated Sauvignon Blanc regions.

Tasting Notes
The wine presents a bright, pale straw colour. Its aromatic profile opens with gooseberry, citrus and white peach, complemented by subtle spicy notes and a delicate mineral character. On the palate, it is taut and beautifully layered, with lively acidity, fine texture and impressive balance. The finish is long, precise and refined, with citrus and mineral nuances lingering gracefully. The 2017 vintage is drinking well now, offering both maturity and freshness. With careful cellar storage, it should continue to develop additional complexity over the next few years, although its elegance and freshness make it highly enjoyable today.

Production
The grapes come from steep vineyard sites in Südsteiermark, where distinctive Opok soils—an ancient, calcareous marl—contribute mineral depth and precision. The fruit is gently pressed before fermentation in stainless-steel tanks and, in part, large wooden casks. The wine is then matured on its fine lees, building texture and complexity while avoiding an overtly oaky character. The approach emphasises purity, balance and an expressive sense of place.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 10–12°C. This Sauvignon Blanc is an excellent match for refined seafood dishes such as grilled sea bass, shellfish and delicate fish preparations. It also pairs beautifully with lighter dishes featuring fresh green herbs, citrus, asparagus or other bright, vegetal flavours. Decanting is not essential, but a brief 15–20 minutes in a carafe can help reveal the wine’s layered aromas and mineral character.
