Description

Weingut Georg Breuer Riesling Estate Rüdesheim 2021 is a precise, mineral-driven expression of Riesling from one of the Rheingau’s most respected producers. Sourced from steep, slate and quartzite-rich vineyards around the historic town of Rüdesheim, it captures the cool, elegant character of the 2021 vintage. This is a dry, finely etched Riesling that balances pure fruit with a distinctive sense of place, ideal both for casual drinking and more serious cellar exploration.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a pale lemon hue with green highlights, reflecting its youthful freshness and energy. The nose opens with bright aromas of lime zest, green apple, white peach and crisp pear, layered with notes of white flowers, crushed slate, and a subtle herbal lift reminiscent of lemon balm. On the palate, it is dry, taut and linear, with a vivid backbone of acidity that frames the pure citrus and orchard-fruit core. Flavors of lime, green apple and grapefruit are joined by hints of stone fruit and a distinctly salty, slatey minerality that lingers on the finish. The texture is light to medium-bodied yet surprisingly concentrated, with impressive length for an estate-level wine. Enjoyable now for its precision and freshness, this 2021 vintage also has the structure to evolve gracefully over the next 5–8 years, gaining more complexity and gentle honeyed nuances with time in bottle.

Production
The fruit for this Riesling comes from estate holdings in and around Rüdesheim, where steep, south and southwest-facing slopes overlook the Rhine River. The soils are dominated by slate, quartzite and mixed stony topsoils, which contribute to the wine’s tension, minerality and clarity. Grapes are typically hand-harvested in multiple passes to ensure optimal ripeness and healthy fruit, especially important in a cooler, classic vintage like 2021. In the cellar, Georg Breuer follows a restrained, quality-focused approach: gentle pressing, cool fermentation in stainless steel and traditional large old oak casks, and extended time on fine lees to enhance texture and aromatic finesse. The result is an authentic, terroir-driven Rheingau Riesling with no excess embellishment—just purity and precision.

Food & Serving
This Riesling is highly versatile at the table and shines with a wide range of dishes. It pairs beautifully with fresh seafood such as oysters, ceviche, sushi, grilled prawns or simply prepared white fish, as well as light poultry, salads with citrus dressings and vegetarian dishes featuring asparagus, fennel or fresh herbs. Its bright acidity and dry profile also make it a natural match with mildly spiced Asian cuisine, such as Vietnamese or Japanese dishes. Serve well chilled at about 8–10 °C. While decanting is not essential, a short 15–20 minutes in a carafe or some time in the glass can help the aromas open up, especially in the first few years after release.

Producer
Weingut Georg Breuer is one of the benchmark estates of the Rheingau, known for its uncompromising focus on dry, terroir-expressive Rieslings. Founded in the late 19th century and shaped significantly by Bernhard Breuer in the late 20th century, the estate helped re-establish the reputation of Rheingau Riesling on the world stage through low yields, meticulous vineyard work and a clear stylistic vision. Today, the winery is led by Theresa Breuer, who continues to champion sustainable viticulture and precise, low-intervention winemaking. With holdings in some of the region’s most prized sites in Rüdesheim and Rauenthal, Georg Breuer is widely regarded as a leading voice for elegant, ageworthy dry Rieslings that reflect their origin with clarity and depth.
