Weingut Friedrich Becker’s 'Laisser Faire' Riesling 2023 is a compelling example of a hands-off winemaking philosophy done with real precision. Sourced from some of the best Riesling parcels near Schweigen in Pfalz, it combines natural fermentation, limestone-driven minerality, and a distinctive off-dry style that never feels heavy or overly sweet.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a golden hue that hints at both ripeness and concentration. The nose is expressive and layered, with lime, grapefruit, peach, mirabelle, and a subtle wild, beer-like edge reminiscent of Belgian-style spontaneous fermentation. On the palate, the wine is intense and mineral, with bright citrus and stone fruit framed by a finely judged 15 g/l of residual sugar that reads more as half-dry than sweet. The finish is focused and lively, and while it is delicious young, it also has the structure and balance to develop well over the next few years.

Production
The grapes come from top Riesling sites near Schweigen, where limestone-rich soils give the wine its clear mineral backbone. Fermentation took place in large 2,400-liter casks and was allowed to continue naturally until it stopped on its own, leaving the final sugar and alcohol levels to nature rather than intervention.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile food wine with enough freshness and texture to work beautifully with spicy Asian dishes, roast poultry, seafood, sushi, or salty cheeses. Serve it well chilled, around 8–10°C, and decanting is not necessary, though a short period in the glass will help its aromas open up.
