Description
Walter Scott’s Freedom Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022 comes from one of Oregon’s most respected sites, bringing together depth, perfume, and real cellar-worthy structure. Made from fruit tied to a vineyard first planted in 1981, it reflects both the pedigree of Freedom Hill and the focused, hands-on style of winemaker Ken Pahlow.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Pinot Noir shows a dark, vibrant profile with lifted aromatics and impressive concentration. Expect waves of black and red cherries, rose petals, smoke, forest floor, and spice on the nose.
The palate is juicy and intense, with blackberry and raspberry layered over earthy notes and black tea. It has a long, persistent finish and enough structure to develop beautifully with time in bottle.
Production
The fruit comes from Freedom Hill Vineyard in Oregon’s Mt. Pisgah area, a historic site planted in 1981 by Dan and Helen Dusschee. During vinification, 15% whole clusters were used, adding aromatic lift and texture, and the wine was aged with 35% new oak to frame its richness and spice.
Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with duck, roast chicken, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon, or dishes with earthy herbs and game-like depth. Serve at around 15–16°C, and consider giving it a short decant if opening young to let the aromatics fully open.
Producer
Walter Scott is one of Oregon’s standout modern producers, known for precise, site-driven wines with elegance and intensity. Winemaker Ken Pahlow has earned a strong reputation for crafting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that highlight some of the region’s most distinguished vineyard sites.
