Walter Hansel Chardonnay Cuvée Alyce 2021

Walter Hansel Chardonnay Cuvée Alyce 2021 is an expressive California Chardonnay inspired by Alyce, the vibrant and charismatic mother of winemaker Stephen Hansel. Bringing together three Chardonnay clones, it combines generous fruit, lively citrus and elegant French oak influence in a wine with both richness and energy.

Tasting Notes
The wine shines with a beautiful golden hue. Its aromatic profile is bright and inviting, opening with peach, apricot, citrus and orange marmalade, followed by toasted almonds and a subtle hint of fresh ginger. On the palate, it is simultaneously full-bodied and remarkably light on its feet. Notes of lemon curd, pink grapefruit, pineapple, honey, toasted almonds and freshly baked brioche unfold with a balanced, polished finish. Its combination of fruit, freshness and oak-derived complexity gives it the structure to develop further in bottle, although it is already highly expressive in its youth.

Production
The Cuvée Alyce is made from three different Chardonnay clones, selected to create a layered and vibrant blend. All the grape bunches were pressed whole, and the resulting must was matured in French oak barrels, contributing gentle notes of toasted almond, honey and brioche while preserving the wine’s energetic fruit character. Specific vineyard and terroir details are not provided.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 10–12°C to allow its aromas and texture to fully emerge. It pairs beautifully with roast chicken, grilled or baked salmon, lobster, creamy pasta, risotto, and dishes featuring citrus or gently spiced sauces. Decanting is not essential, but a short period of aeration in the glass—or 15–20 minutes in a carafe—can help reveal its layered aromatics.
