Description

Vincent Girardin Bourgogne Rouge Cuvée Saint-Vincent 2021 is a characterful, terroir-driven Pinot Noir that offers a superb introduction to both the estate and the Côte de Beaune style. Sourced from old vines and crafted with the same care as Girardin’s more prestigious appellations, it overdelivers for a regional Bourgogne. This cuvée pays homage to Saint Vincent, the patron saint of winemakers, and has long been considered the ‘calling card’ red of the domaine.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2021 Cuvée Saint-Vincent shows a bright, translucent ruby hue that hints at its freshness and finesse. The nose is lifted and pure, with vibrant notes of red cherry and wild strawberry, interwoven with a touch of citrus zest and delicate violet florals, plus a subtle hint of spice from its time in oak. On the palate, the wine is juicy, precise, and lively, with a core of red cherry fruit and redcurrant supported by fine, still-youthful tannins that bring a gentle, mouthcoating grip. There’s a refreshing, slightly grapefruity twist on the finish that keeps everything bright and moreish. This is a Pinot Noir meant to be enjoyed for its energy and drinkability, yet it has enough structure to age gracefully for around 5–7 years from the vintage, gaining a bit more silk and complexity over time.

Production
The fruit for this Bourgogne Rouge comes from approximately 45-year-old Pinot Noir vines planted on classic Burgundian clay-limestone soils in the Côte de Beaune, a terroir renowned for producing finely etched, elegant reds. Harvesting is done by hand, with a rigorous selection of the grapes at three stages: first in the vineyard, then at the sorting table, and finally using an optical-mechanical system to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy berries make it into the wine. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts and carried out in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, with about three weeks of maceration on the skins to gently extract color, flavor, and tannin. After a soft pressing, the wine ages for around 10 months in 500-liter oak barrels, of which roughly 10% are new, striking a careful balance between purity of fruit and subtle oak complexity.

Food & Serving
This cuvée is wonderfully versatile at the table, and in Burgundy it’s the kind of red you might even enjoy as an aperitif with charcuterie, pâtés, and simple terrines. It pairs beautifully with roast chicken, duck breast, pork loin, grilled sausages, and dishes based on mushrooms or root vegetables; it’s also an excellent match for soft cheeses like Brie, Camembert, and mild washed-rind cheeses. Serve at 14–16°C (57–61°F) to highlight its aromatic brightness and fine texture. A brief 20–30 minutes in a carafe can help open up the aromatics, especially in its youth, but extended decanting is not necessary.

Producer
Maison Vincent Girardin, based in Meursault, has become one of the benchmark names in contemporary Burgundy, known for its precise, terroir-expressive whites and reds from the Côte de Beaune. Founded in the 1980s, the domaine quickly rose from a small family operation to an internationally respected producer, in large part due to its commitment to meticulous vineyard work and increasingly sustainable, low-intervention practices. Today, Girardin’s wines are celebrated for their clarity, balance, and sense of place, with the Bourgogne Cuvée Saint-Vincent serving as an important introduction to the estate’s style and a reference point for value-minded Burgundy lovers.
