Description

Vina Mein O Pequeno Mein Val do Avia Ribeiro 2020 is a finely crafted white from Galicia’s historic Ribeiro region, capturing the precision and quiet intensity of the Viña Meín – Emilio Rojo project. Blending Albariño, Godello and Treixadura, it offers an aromatic, powerful expression of the Avia Valley’s traditional grapes. This is a wine that bridges heritage and modern craftsmanship, delivering purity, detail and a strong sense of place in every glass.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, O Pequeno Mein 2020 shows a bright, pale straw color with greenish highlights, signalling freshness and vibrancy. The nose is expressive and layered: citrus zest and green apple mingle with white flowers, stone fruit, and subtle herbal notes, alongside hints of wet stone and a gentle saline edge that recalls the Atlantic influence. On the palate, the wine is precise and textural, with a fine balance between ripeness and tension. Lively acidity lifts flavors of lemon, grapefruit and quince, underscored by peach, fennel and a mineral backbone that adds length and structure. The Albariño brings aromatic lift and salinity, Godello contributes mid-palate weight and texture, while Treixadura adds elegance and finesse. The finish is long, clean and slightly savory, suggesting the wine will evolve nicely over the next 3–5 years, developing more complexity and honeyed, nutty nuances with short- to mid-term cellaring.

Production
Sourced from vineyards in the Val do Avia within Ribeiro, the grapes grow on terraced slopes of granitic and sandy soils that naturally limit vigor and concentrate flavor. The Atlantic climate, with its cooling breezes and marked diurnal shifts, preserves acidity and aromatic intensity. Grapes are typically harvested by hand in small boxes to protect the fruit, with careful sorting to ensure only the healthiest bunches make it to the winery. Fermentation is carried out with a gentle, precision-driven approach—often in stainless steel and/or neutral vessels—at controlled temperatures to highlight the character of Albariño, Godello and Treixadura without excessive oak influence. The wine is then aged on fine lees for added texture, depth and complexity, while maintaining a focus on freshness and clarity.

Food & Serving
This Ribeiro white is a natural partner for seafood: think Galician-style octopus, grilled prawns, mussels, oysters and simply prepared white fish. It also pairs beautifully with sushi, ceviche, soft goat cheeses, roasted vegetables, lightly spiced tapas and poultry dishes with citrus or herb accents. Serve well-chilled but not icy, ideally at 9–11°C (48–52°F), to allow the aromatics and texture to open up. A brief 15–20 minutes in the fridge before serving is usually enough; decanting is not essential, but pouring into a larger-bowled white wine glass and giving it a few minutes in the glass will help the wine express its full aromatic range.

Producer
Viña Meín – Emilio Rojo represents the convergence of one of Ribeiro’s pioneering estates with the vision of one of Spain’s most revered growers. Viña Meín has long been synonymous with the revival of Ribeiro, championing indigenous varieties and precise, terroir-driven whites from the Avia Valley. Emilio Rojo, famed for his meticulous work and tiny-production Ribeiro wines, brought a new level of detail and artisanal focus to the project. Together, they have helped reposition Ribeiro as one of Galicia’s most exciting appellations, earning critical acclaim for wines that are both deeply rooted in local tradition and crafted with modern finesse and clarity.
