Villa Loren, Valpolicella Ripasso 2021

Villa Loren Valpolicella Ripasso 2021 is a full-bodied red from the Veneto, made in the historic Valpolicella area where Amarone was born. Its distinctive character comes from the region’s sun-filled climate, Adriatic breezes and the concentration achieved by gently drying the harvested grapes before fermentation.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep garnet-red colour. Its complex bouquet combines cinnamon, cherry jam and walnut with darker impressions of ripe black fruit, vanilla and coffee. On the palate, it is powerful and generously textured, balancing concentrated fruit with warming spice and subtle oak-derived notes. Extended maturation gives the wine added depth and polish, while its firm structure should allow it to develop further over the next few years. It is already approachable, but can benefit from short decanting before serving.

Production
The grapes are sourced from Valpolicella in Veneto, an area influenced by plentiful sunshine and cooling breezes from the Adriatic coast. After harvesting, the grapes are placed in small crates and naturally dried for around three months in dry, well-ventilated rooms, concentrating their sugars, glycerine and aromas. They are then gently pressed, followed by a long, cool fermentation and more than a month of maceration. The wine matures in medium-sized oak barrels for approximately 24 months before spending at least another eight months ageing in bottle.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for rich, hearty dishes, this Valpolicella Ripasso works well with beef fillet, lamb, veal, rabbit, wild boar and venison, as well as robust stews. Serve at approximately 16–18°C to allow its fruit and spice character to show at their best. Decant for 30–60 minutes, particularly when serving the wine with a substantial meal.
