Villa della Torre, Amarone della Valpolicella 2020

Villa della Torre Amarone della Valpolicella 2020 is a richly styled Italian red wine from one of Valpolicella’s most historic estates. Its deep ruby colour, aromatic cherry character and carefully integrated tannins combine with 18 months of wood ageing to create a polished Amarone with impressive persistence.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby-red colour. The nose is led by ripe cherry aromas, complemented by subtle notes of vanilla and warm spices from its time in wood. On the palate, it is balanced and generous, with a well-integrated tannic structure and a long, lingering finish. The 2020 vintage is enjoyable now, while its concentration, structure and Amarone style should allow it to develop further in bottle over the coming years.

Production
The grapes were destemmed and crushed between December and January, followed by a period of cold maceration before fermentation. Fermentation took place at a controlled temperature and was followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine was then matured for 18 months in wooden casks and oak tonneaux, allowing the fruit, spice and tannins to harmonise.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for hearty meat dishes, roasted or braised poultry and mature cheeses. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C, to preserve freshness and balance. Decanting for approximately 30–60 minutes is recommended, particularly when serving the wine young, to allow its aromas and texture to open up.

Producer
Villa della Torre is an Italian wine estate of considerable historical importance. The Renaissance villa was designed between the late 1440s and 1562 by Giulio Romano and Michele Sanmicheli, making it a celebrated architectural landmark as well as a winery. Marilisa Allegrini acquired the property in 2008, and the estate now combines wine, art and hospitality under the direction of her daughters, Carlotta and Caterina.
