Description
Vigneti Massa’s Derthona Sterpi is a distinctive Timorasso from Piedmont, made by one of the great champions of the grape, Walter Massa. It captures the precision, depth, and personality that have helped bring Timorasso back into the spotlight as one of Italy’s most compelling white wines.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a clear straw-yellow color with a subtle golden hue. The nose is expressive and layered, offering golden delicious apple, kiwi, lemon candy, gentle smoky notes, and delicate floral and mineral accents.
On the palate, the wine is bright and citrus-driven, with a lively, savory edge that adds tension and character. The finish is relaxed yet persistent, echoing the aromatic profile and leaving a clean, satisfying impression. Thanks to its structure and depth, it should also develop beautifully with a few years in bottle.
Production
Made from 100% Timorasso grown in Piedmont, this wine reflects the grape’s strong regional identity and the careful work that has made Derthona a benchmark style. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, followed by 10 months of aging in stainless steel on fine lees and an additional 6 months in bottle, helping build texture, complexity, and precision while preserving freshness.
Food & Serving
This is a versatile white wine for richer seafood dishes, roast poultry, creamy risotto, and pasta with mushrooms or herbs. It also pairs well with aged cheeses and Mediterranean dishes with a slightly savory edge. Serve it chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and decanting is not usually necessary, though a brief aeration can help open up the wine if enjoyed young.
Producer
Vigneti Massa is closely associated with Walter Massa, the producer widely credited with reviving and elevating Timorasso in Piedmont. His dedication to the grape has made the estate a reference point for the region and a driving force behind its modern reputation. Today, Vigneti Massa is recognized for producing expressive, terroir-driven wines with real historical significance.
