Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2020 Rocche di Castiglione shows a luminous garnet hue with the classic transparent rim typical of top Nebbiolo. The nose is incredibly focused and layered, offering iron-tinged minerality, wild cherry, redcurrant, and a subtle cherry-cola note, all framed by dusty rose petals, dried flowers, violet, and a whisper of iris. On the palate, the wine is direct yet complex, unfolding in precise layers as it opens in the glass. Bright red fruits and citrus-tinged acidity are backed by chalky, tightly knit tannins that feel sudden and firm at this youthful stage, yet clearly signal serious aging potential. Production
Rocche di Castiglione is a steep, historic cru in Castiglione Falletto, famed for its calcareous, chalky-limestone soils and excellent exposure, which naturally limit yields and heighten aromatic complexity. Nebbiolo is typically hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, allowing for meticulous bunch selection in the vineyard and at the sorting table. Fermentation is traditionally carried out with careful temperature control to preserve the purity of fruit and the finely etched aromatics, followed by extended maceration to extract structure and nuance. The wine is then matured in oak (often a combination of large casks and/or barriques, depending on the cuvée and vintage) to polish the tannins while retaining the hallmark elegance and transparency of this cru.

Food & Serving
This Barolo is an outstanding match for refined, earthy dishes: think truffle risotto, tajarin with butter and sage, braised veal or beef, game birds, or porcini and wild mushroom preparations. Mature cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano, aged toma, or pecorino also work beautifully with its structure and acidity. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) and, given its youth and concentration, decant for 2–3 hours to allow the chalky tannins to soften and the floral and mineral complexity to fully emerge.
