Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2020 Barolo Ravera shows a deep, luminous garnet core with youthful ruby highlights at the rim. The nose is intricate and layered: dark cherries and blackcurrants are framed by soft, warming spice, with nuances of dried herbs, tomato leaf, grilled aubergine and a distinct ferrous, iron-rich earthiness that speaks clearly of its terroir. On the palate, the wine is linear, firm and finely chiseled, with a vibrant, mouthwatering acidity and a tightly woven tannic spine that promises long development. Flavors of black cherry, ripe plum and cassis unfold slowly, joined by notes of licorice, subtle tobacco, savory earth and a mineral, almost saline edge on the long, dry finish. While already showing impressive purity and definition, this Barolo is built for the cellar and will reward patient aging over 10–20 years or more, gaining complexity and silkier texture with time.

Production
Ravera is one of Barolo’s most prized MGA vineyards, perched on open hillsides with a broad mountain skyline and cooler temperatures that preserve freshness and aromatic lift. The soils here are rich in marl and iron, contributing both structure and that telltale ferrous, earthy note in the finished wine. Grapes are carefully hand-harvested at optimal ripeness to maintain balance, then gently crushed and traditionally vinified. Fermentation and maceration are conducted with close attention to extracting fine, precise tannins, after which the wine is aged exclusively in large, neutral oak casks (botti), allowing the character of the vineyard to shine without overt wood influence. The 2020 vintage yielded just 10,026 bottles, underscoring its artisanal, limited-production nature.

Food & Serving
This Barolo is a natural partner for rich, savory dishes such as braised beef or veal, osso buco, roasted lamb, truffle risotto, wild mushroom ragù and aged hard cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or mature Castelmagno. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) in large Burgundy or Barolo stems to allow the aromatics to unfurl. In its youth, decanting for 1.5–3 hours is recommended to soften the tannins and open the bouquet; as it ages and gains tertiary complexity, a shorter decant or careful splash in a carafe will be sufficient.
