Description
Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame Brut Champagne 2008 is a prestige cuvée that showcases the house’s signature strength, elegance, and depth in a remarkably Pinot Noir-driven style. With an unusually high 92% Pinot Noir from historic Grand Cru vineyards, it pays tribute to Madame Clicquot’s bold vision and enduring influence on Champagne.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it presents a refined golden hue with a luminous, elegant sparkle. The nose is layered and expressive, opening with dried fruit notes of almond, fig, and apricot, lifted by fresh pear and supported by roasted hazelnut and praline.
On the palate, the wine is intense yet beautifully silky, with flavors of cherry and citrus woven through a precise, structured frame. The balance of richness and freshness gives it impressive finesse, and its pedigree suggests excellent aging potential for many more years, gaining further complexity with time.
Production
This cuvée is built around Pinot Noir from Veuve Clicquot’s own historic Grand Cru vineyards in Aÿ, Ambonnay, Bouzy, Verzy, and Verzenay, with Chardonnay coming from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. The terroir brings together chalky soils and top-tier vineyard sites that naturally favor concentration, structure, and aromatic precision. Vinification is carried out to preserve purity and expression, resulting in a Champagne that emphasizes texture, depth, and the distinctive character of its exceptional vintage.
Food & Serving
La Grande Dame 2008 is a versatile partner for refined dishes such as scallops, lobster, caviar, roast poultry, or truffle risotto, and it also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C to allow the wine’s aromatic complexity and fine structure to unfold. Decanting is generally not necessary, though a short time in the glass can help reveal its layered aromatics.
Producer
Champagne Veuve Clicquot is one of the most celebrated houses in the region, inseparably linked to Madame Clicquot, whose innovations helped shape modern Champagne as we know it. Founded in 1772 and elevated by her pioneering leadership, the house became known for quality, consistency, and innovation, including the first known vintage Champagne and major advances in clarification and production. La Grande Dame remains one of its most iconic cuvées, representing the house at its most refined and ambitious.
