Vérité, Sonoma Valley Le Désir 2014

Vérité Le Désir 2014 is an elegant, deeply expressive Cabernet Franc-led blend inspired by the great wines of Saint-Émilion while firmly rooted in the distinctive terroir of Sonoma County. Blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, it combines concentrated fruit, exotic spice and refined structure with the mineral character that makes Cabernet Franc so compelling. The name Vérité—French for “truth”—reflects the estate’s commitment to expressing the authentic personality of its vineyard sites.

Tasting Notes
The wine presents a deep, impressive colour, followed by an aromatic bouquet of blackberry, rose petals and Provençal spices. Subtle mineral notes add freshness and complexity, while the Cabernet Franc brings an exotic, floral character to the blend. On the palate, Le Désir is concentrated yet graceful, with a silky texture, layered dark fruit and finely integrated oak. Its firm structure, mineral backbone and persistent finish point to excellent longevity, and the 2014 vintage should reward careful cellaring for many years.

Production
The grapes come from more than 40 carefully identified micro-crus on the western slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains in Sonoma County, where varied soils and site exposures shape the character of each wine. Grapes are hand-harvested at exceptionally low yields to maximise concentration and individuality. Le Désir is primarily Cabernet Franc, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and is matured for 15 months in 100% new French oak, combining traditional Bordeaux-inspired winemaking with the distinctive expression of the New World.

Food & Serving
This structured red is an excellent match for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, venison and other richly flavoured game dishes. It also pairs beautifully with herb-crusted rack of lamb, mushroom preparations and mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decant for approximately one to two hours when drinking young to allow the wine’s layers of fruit, spice and mineral character to unfold; older bottles should be decanted gently and briefly, if at all.

Founded in 1998, Vérité was established to create highly individual wines that authentically reflect the terroir of Sonoma County. Winemaker Pierre Seillan has mapped more than 40 micro-crus across the Mayacamas, bringing an exceptionally detailed understanding of the region’s soils to the wines. The estate produces three Bordeaux-inspired blends: La Muse, based on Merlot; La Joie, based on Cabernet Sauvignon; and Le Désir, based on Cabernet Franc. Its low-yield, hand-harvested approach and meticulous site selection have made Vérité one of Sonoma’s most distinctive producers of fine, age-worthy red wine.
