Velenosi, Verso Sera Colline Teramane 2020

Verso Sera Colline Teramane Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOCG is Velenosi’s flagship red, first released with the 2017 harvest and made entirely from estate-grown Montepulciano grapes. Sourced from the Controguerra district, it combines the power and depth the variety is known for with the finesse and structure expected from one of Abruzzo’s most respected DOCG zones.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an intense, opaque ruby-red color that speaks to its concentration and richness. The nose is layered and expressive, with ripe plum, blackberry, and blackcurrant leading the way, followed by darker notes of tobacco and leather that add complexity and a distinctly varietal character. The palate is full-bodied and generous, yet polished, with supple, velvety tannins and a long, persistent finish. Thanks to its structure and careful élevage, it has the backbone to age gracefully for several years, developing even more savory and tertiary nuances over time.

Production
The grapes come from Velenosi’s own vineyards in Controguerra, planted at around 260 meters above sea level on medium-textured soils rich in gravel, which help shape the wine’s elegance and complexity. Harvest takes place in mid-October, with hand-picked bunches carefully selected before fermentation in small, temperature-controlled cement tanks. Maceration on the skins lasts around 28 days, followed by 10 months of maturation in large 30-hectoliter oak casks.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for rich meat dishes such as braised beef, lamb stew, game, and slow-cooked sauces, as well as mature cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C to bring out its balance and aromatics, and decant for about an hour if enjoyed young to help soften the tannins and open the bouquet.
