Velenosi, Querciantica Lacrima di Morro Superiore 2021

Velenosi Querciantica Lacrima di Morro Superiore 2021 is a distinctive Italian red that showcases the aromatic personality of 100% Lacrima di Morro d’Alba. Sourced from hillside vineyards near San Marcello-Ancona and first produced in 2007, it offers a refined expression of this characterful indigenous grape, combining floral intensity with an elegant, balanced structure.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an intense ruby-red colour with violet reflections. The nose is immediately expressive, with elegant aromas of cherry, violet, geranium, and freshly cut grass, giving it a fragrant and unmistakably varietal profile. On the palate, it is full-bodied and dry, with a harmonious tannin structure and a long, persistent finish. The wine leans more toward floral and vegetal complexity than deep fruit richness, which gives it a graceful, polished feel. It is best enjoyed while youthful for its fresh aromatic lift, though it can develop added softness over the next few years.

Production
Querciantica comes from vineyards at 100–150 metres above sea level, planted on clay-rich soils that help retain freshness and support the grape’s aromatic expression. The grapes are hand-harvested in September, then carefully sorted before destemming and fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Maceration on the skins lasts around 20 days at 20°C, a method chosen to preserve the wine’s floral and fruity nuances while building structure.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for grilled meats, roasted dishes, and mature cheeses, where its aromatic lift and firm but refined tannins can really shine. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting is not essential, but a short decant can help open up the bouquet if the wine is served young.
