Valbuena 5º Año 2021 is Vega Sicilia’s more approachable yet unmistakably refined expression of Ribera del Duero. Known for its precise balance of ripe fruit, freshness and oak-derived complexity, it reflects the estate’s long-standing commitment to extended maturation and meticulous cellar work.

Tasting Notes
The wine presents a deep, youthful ruby colour. Its nose is centred on mature dark fruit, with expressive plum and blackcurrant complemented by subtle, well-integrated notes of wood and spice. On the palate, it is layered, fresh and precise, with fine-grained tannins and a long, beautifully balanced finish. Its structure and freshness give it excellent potential to develop further in bottle, while already offering considerable drinking pleasure.

Production
The vineyards are located around Valbuena de Duero, close to the Duero River, where the vines are rooted in calcareous and clay-rich alluvial soils. Under Vega Sicilia’s own technical direction, the wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel. It then undergoes approximately five years of maturation: first in new French oak, followed by used American oak and finally extended bottle ageing, allowing the wine to gain complexity, harmony and polish.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for refined meat dishes, Valbuena 5º Año pairs particularly well with rack of lamb, veal and beef served rare to medium, as well as elegant slow-cooked stews. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decanting for around one hour is recommended when opening the bottle young, both to aerate the wine and to help reveal its layered aromas.
