Vega Sicilia Reserva Especial Rel.2022

Vega Sicilia Único Reserva Especial Release 2022 is an exceptional multi-vintage cuvée, combining the distinguished 2008, 2010 and 2011 vintages into one of Spain’s most iconic wines. Produced by the legendary Vega Sicilia in Ribera del Duero, it expresses the house’s long-standing tradition of blending carefully selected Único vintages to achieve remarkable complexity, balance and consistency.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this deep, ruby-red wine shows impressive concentration and developing garnet hues. The nose is layered and refined, revealing ripe dark berries, black cherry, cassis and plum alongside cedar, tobacco, leather, spice and subtle balsamic nuances. With further aeration, notes of dried fruit and savoury earth emerge. The palate is powerful yet beautifully composed, with concentrated fruit, polished tannins and lively acidity providing structure and freshness. Mature oak contributes elegant flavours of toast, vanilla, cedar and spice without overshadowing the fruit. Long, persistent and complex, this is a wine with considerable ageing potential and should continue to develop gracefully in a well-stored cellar for many years.

Production
The grapes are sourced from Vega Sicilia’s vineyards in Castilla y León, where the continental climate and varied soils help produce Tempranillo—also known as Tinto Fino—with depth, freshness and longevity. Grapes from each vintage, including Tinto Fino and Cabernet Sauvignon, are carefully selected and harvested before being transported in small crates to protect their condition. On arrival, they are destemmed and macerated at controlled temperatures. Fermentation takes place in a combination of wooden and stainless-steel vessels, followed by two years of maturation in large wooden vats. The three vintages are then blended, with the final cuvée spending at least 18 months in new barrels and a further 30 months in used barrels.

Food & Serving
This full-bodied and mature red is an excellent partner for roasted and grilled red meats, lamb, game, beef tenderloin and richly flavoured stews. It also pairs beautifully with Iberian ham, mature hard cheeses and earthy mushroom dishes. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decanting for one to two hours is recommended to open the wine’s layered aromas and soften its structure, although older bottles should be handled carefully and tasted periodically after opening.
