Valandraud 2021 is a benchmark Saint-Émilion wine from one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated modern estates, offering the finesse and depth expected of a 1er Grand Cru Classé. Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby-garnet color, hinting at richness and structure. The bouquet is layered and expressive, often moving from ripe dark berries and plum to violet, spice, graphite, and subtle oak-derived notes such as cedar, cocoa, or toasted nuances. On the palate, Valandraud is usually full-bodied and precise, with supple tannins, vibrant freshness, and a long, polished finish. The balance between ripe fruit, mineral tension, and fine oak makes it a wine with excellent cellaring potential, likely to evolve beautifully over the next decade or more.

Production
Produced in Saint-Émilion on Bordeaux’s limestone and clay-rich right bank, Valandraud is crafted from carefully managed parcels selected for quality and expression of terroir. The estate is known for small-scale, highly attentive viticulture, with harvesting typically done by hand to ensure only perfectly ripe grapes are selected. Vinification is carried out with a focus on precision and extraction control, often followed by aging in French oak to build complexity and texture.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with premium cuts of beef, lamb, duck, roast game, and dishes with rich mushroom or truffle elements. It also works well alongside hard cheeses such as aged Comté or mature Manchego. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if opening young, to allow the wine to fully open and show its depth.

Valandraud was founded by Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud and became one of the leading names in Bordeaux’s “garagiste” movement, helping redefine expectations for small-production, highly expressive Saint-Émilion wines.
