Description

Valandraud 2018 is a highly sought-after Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé that captures the modern, precision-driven style that made the estate famous. Produced by one of the region’s true “garagiste” pioneers, it combines depth, polish, and remarkable concentration with the pedigree of one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated right-bank addresses.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep, dense ruby color with impressive clarity and intensity. The nose is layered and expressive, offering dark berries, plum, graphite, violets, spice, and subtle oak-driven notes that gradually unfold with air. On the palate, Valandraud 2018 is expected to be rich and velvety, with ripe black fruit, refined tannins, and a concentrated core balanced by freshness and mineral tension. The finish is long and composed, suggesting excellent aging potential; while approachable with decanting in its youth, it should continue to develop beautifully over many years.

Production
Sourced from Saint-Émilion’s prized terroirs on the Bordeaux right bank, the wine benefits from limestone and clay soils that help deliver both power and finesse. Valandraud is known for meticulous vineyard work, careful harvesting, and parcel-by-parcel selection, followed by precise vinification aimed at preserving purity, texture, and intensity.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game, truffle dishes, and mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromas and structure to open fully.

Producer
Château Valandraud was founded in the late 1980s by Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud and quickly became one of the defining names of the Saint-Émilion “garage wine” movement. Its rise from an ambitious small-scale project to Premier Grand Cru Classé status is a landmark story in modern Bordeaux, and the estate is now recognized for its innovation, quality, and influence in the region.
