Cantina Tramin Lagrein is a distinctive red from Alto Adige, made entirely from the region’s emblematic Lagrein grape. It combines Alpine freshness with a deep, velvety style, offering a wine that feels both characterful and refined—an expression of one of northern Italy’s most historic winegrowing areas.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a ruby-red to deep garnet hue. The nose is inviting and layered, with violet, blackberry, and cherry at the forefront, lifted by subtle herbal nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied and smooth, with ripe cherry, raspberry, bitter cocoa, and liquorice notes shaping the flavor profile. The tannins are present but well-integrated, giving the wine structure without losing its supple texture. A long, persistent finish and its balance of fruit, spice, and freshness suggest good aging potential over the medium term.

Production
The grapes come from Termeno in Alto Adige, where the vineyards benefit from an Alpine climate with significant day-night temperature shifts. The soils are notably complex, combining clay, limestone, gravel, sand, and porphyry, which contributes both structure and freshness to the wine. Harvesting is done by hand, followed by destemming and fermentation at controlled temperatures in stainless steel and cement tanks to encourage malolactic fermentation. The wine then matures for at least six months, partly in cement and partly in classic oak whisky barrels, a process that softens the tannins while preserving aromatic clarity and balance.

Food & Serving
This Lagrein pairs beautifully with hearty dishes such as game, roasted meats, braised beef, mushroom-based dishes, and mature cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if you’d like to soften the structure and open up the aromatics.
