Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in the glass, this Riserva opens with layers of ripe dark cherry, plum, and black berry fruit, followed by hints of spice, cocoa, and a subtle earthy note. The palate is full and persistent, with Montepulciano’s natural richness balanced by freshness, supple tannins, and a polished, well-integrated oak influence. Its 20 months of élevage in barriques and batonnage on the fine lees lend added texture and depth, while preserving the wine’s clean fruit profile and sense of harmony. This is a wine that can be enjoyed now for its generous fruit and structure, but it also has the depth to develop gracefully over the next several years.

Production
Mazzamurello comes from clay and limestone soils in Abruzzo, where Montepulciano is trained in the traditional Abruzzese pergola system and benefits from a sunny, dry growing season. The grapes are carefully selected from the best parcels of the vintage, reflecting the estate’s focus on quality and precision. Vinification takes place in stainless steel, including a cold pre-maceration to enhance freshness and aromatic clarity. The wine is then matured in barriques for 20 months with batonnage on the fine lees, a process that builds structure, stability, and complexity before it is bottled as DOC Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Rosso.

This is a versatile, food-friendly red that pairs beautifully with roasted meats, grilled lamb, rich pasta dishes, and mature cheeses. It also works well with braised beef, game, or tomato-based Italian dishes. Serve at 16–18°C; decanting for about 30–60 minutes will help the wine open fully, especially in its youth.

The winery has earned a strong reputation for expressive, organic Abruzzese wines, with Mazzamurello standing as its first and most famous label. It is widely respected as one of the estate’s signature wines and a faithful reflection of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.
