Description

Tiefenbrunner Linticlarus Pinot Nero Riserva 2021 is a refined, top-tier expression of Pinot Nero from the cool alpine slopes of Trentino-Alto Adige. This is Tiefenbrunner’s flagship red, crafted only from the best fruit and given extended maturation to highlight both depth and elegance. Named after the historic Linticlar estate, it reflects decades of Erfahrung in coaxing Burgundian finesse from the dramatic mountain vineyards of South Tyrol.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Linticlarus 2021 shows a luminous, medium ruby hue with garnet reflections at the rim, hinting at both concentration and finesse. The nose is precise and layered: wild red berries, ripe cherry and raspberry meet dried rose petals, violet, and a subtle forest-floor character. Underneath, fine oak notes of sweet spice, vanilla pod, cocoa and a touch of cedar add complexity without overwhelming the fruit. On the palate, the wine is silky yet structured, with a pure, focused line of red cherry, cranberry and wild strawberry supported by vibrant alpine acidity. Fine-grained tannins and a mineral backbone give it grip and length, while nuances of black tea, clove, tobacco leaf and a faint smokiness emerge with air. The finish is long, elegant and savory, suggesting excellent aging potential. Enjoyable now with a short decant, this 2021 has the balance to evolve beautifully for 8–12 years, gaining more tertiary notes of leather, undergrowth and dried herbs over time.

Production
Linticlarus Pinot Nero Riserva is sourced from select, high-altitude vineyards in South Tyrol, where cool nights, warm days and well-drained, limestone- and porphyry-rich soils give naturally low yields and intense, aromatic fruit. Grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, with strict bunch selection in the vineyard and again at the winery to ensure only the finest berries make it into the final cuvée. After a gentle destemming, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks with regular punch-downs or pump-overs to extract color, aroma and fine tannins. The wine is then aged for an extended period in barriques and larger oak barrels, allowing it to integrate structure and oak spice while preserving Pinot Nero’s delicate aromatics. A further rest in bottle before release refines the texture and harmonizes the wine’s complex bouquet.

Food & Serving
This Pinot Nero Riserva is a versatile partner at the table and shines with refined, savory dishes. Think roast duck with herbs, veal in a delicate jus, rack of lamb, mushroom risotto, truffle pasta, or alpine game such as venison with root vegetables. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses like Comté, Gruyère, or a mature Asiago. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) in large, Burgundy-style glasses to highlight its aromatic nuance. Decant for 45–60 minutes in its youth to soften the tannins and open up the bouquet; older bottles need only a gentle splash decant to remove any sediment.

Producer
Tiefenbrunner is one of South Tyrol’s most respected family estates, with roots at the historic Turmhof in Entiklar dating back to 1848. Over generations, the Tiefenbrunner family has helped define the quality renaissance of Trentino-Alto Adige, pioneering site-specific, cool-climate wines that express the region’s dramatic alpine terroir. Today, under the stewardship of the current generation, the winery is renowned for both its precise whites and its characterful reds, with Linticlarus standing as their flagship Pinot Nero. Tiefenbrunner’s commitment to meticulous vineyard work, low yields and thoughtful, terroir-driven winemaking has earned them a strong reputation among wine lovers and critics as a benchmark producer in the region.
