Description

Terre Nere Etna Bianco Superiore Salice 2023 is a distinctive Sicilian white that captures the volcanic energy of Mount Etna with precision and finesse. Made from Carricante, one of Sicily’s most characterful native grapes, it stands out for its minerality, freshness, and refined Mediterranean personality. As part of Tenuta delle Terre Nere’s acclaimed Etna range, it reflects the growing prestige of this historic volcanic wine region.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a pale straw color with greenish reflections, hinting at its freshness and tension. The nose is bright and layered, with citrus, white flowers, green apple, and subtle herbal and saline notes, all underscored by a distinct volcanic mineral character. On the palate, it is crisp and energetic, combining lively acidity with a fine, textured mouthfeel. Flavors of lemon, pear, white peach, and crushed stones lead to a long, clean finish. While already appealing in youth, Carricante-based Etna whites can develop beautifully with a few years of bottle age, gaining complexity and depth.

Production
Produced from Carricante grown on the volcanic soils of Etna in Sicily, this wine benefits from a terroir defined by altitude, mineral-rich ash, and strong diurnal temperature shifts. These conditions help preserve acidity and aromatic purity while contributing to the wine’s signature saline, stony profile. Harvested by hand and vinified with care to protect freshness and site expression, the wine is typically fermented in temperature-controlled conditions and aged in a way that emphasizes precision rather than overt oak influence.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for seafood, shellfish, grilled fish, citrus-dressed salads, and Mediterranean dishes with herbs or light spice. It also pairs well with sushi, risotto, and soft cheeses. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a short aeration can help if the wine is opened very young.

Producer
Tenuta delle Terre Nere is one of the benchmark producers of Etna wine, founded by Marco de Grazia, who helped bring international attention to the region’s exceptional volcanic vineyards. The estate is widely respected for showcasing the individuality of Etna’s different contrade, or vineyard sites, with a focus on purity, elegance, and terroir expression. Its wines have played a major role in elevating Etna to one of Italy’s most exciting fine-wine regions.

A volcanic, high-altitude Etna white from one of Sicily’s benchmark producers, this is pure energy and mineral precision. Citrus zest, lemon, green apple and white peach are lifted by jasmine, Mediterranean herbs and a smoky, saline volcanic core. Crisp acidity and a finely chiseled structure give it tension, drive and a long, mouth-watering finish. A strikingly pure, terroir-driven white.
