Tasting Notes
In the glass, Visellio 2019 shows a deep, almost opaque ruby-red color with garnet reflections at the rim, hinting at both ripeness and structure. The nose is enveloping and complex, with layers of ripe black cherry, plum jam and blackberry compote intertwined with notes of sweet spices, licorice, cacao, vanilla and a subtle balsamic lift. Hints of Mediterranean scrub, dried herbs and a touch of tobacco add depth and intrigue. On the palate, this Primitivo is full-bodied and velvety, with a warm, dense core of dark fruit supported by fine, ripe tannins and a well-integrated backbone of alcohol. Flavors of black cherry, dried fig and blackcurrant are enriched by chocolate, espresso, sweet baking spices and a gentle, savory note on the finish. Production
Visellio is sourced from carefully selected Primitivo vineyards in Apulia, where vines grow in sun-drenched, well-drained soils influenced by Mediterranean breezes and significant diurnal temperature swings. These conditions help achieve optimal ripeness while preserving aromatic intensity. Grapes are typically harvested by hand at full phenolic maturity to ensure only the healthiest, most concentrated clusters are selected. In the cellar, a modern yet respectful vinification emphasizes extraction of color, aroma and fine tannins through controlled fermentation and extended maceration on the skins. The wine is then aged in oak, allowing it to develop its complex bouquet, refined texture and characteristic warm, ethereal intensity before release.

This powerful Primitivo pairs beautifully with robust, flavor-packed dishes such as slow-braised lamb shank, ossobuco, grilled ribeye, hearty ragùs, game stews and aged hard cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or Pecorino.
