Description
Tenute Orestiadi Gibellina Perricone Adeni 2023 is a distinctive Sicilian red that showcases Perricone, the only indigenous red grape of Trapani province. Deeply rooted in local history, this variety was once known as Pignatello, a nod to the “pignate” clay pots made from the same red soils where the vine thrives best. After years of neglect, Perricone is enjoying a welcome revival, and this wine reflects that renewed confidence beautifully.
Tasting Notes
Expect a wine with a vivid, characterful profile that speaks clearly of Sicily. Typically, Perricone shows a ruby to deep garnet color, with aromas of wild berries, red cherry, dried herbs, and a subtle earthy, spicy edge.
On the palate, it is usually medium-bodied with firm but not aggressive tannins, fresh acidity, and a savory, slightly rustic depth that makes it especially appealing with food. The finish often carries notes of dark fruit, Mediterranean herbs, and a touch of spice. While approachable young, it can also develop added complexity over the next few years.
Production
Perricone is an old native variety of western Sicily, and this wine comes from a grape closely tied to the red soils of the Trapani area, where the variety has historically shown its best expression. The vineyard’s terroir is marked by warm Mediterranean conditions and soils that help bring out the grape’s natural structure and aromatic intensity. Vinification details are not specified, but the style suggests a production approach aimed at preserving freshness, varietal character, and the grape’s traditional Sicilian identity.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roasted lamb, grilled sausages, tomato-based pasta dishes, aubergine parmigiana, and aged pecorino. Serve at around 16–18°C to allow the aromatic profile and structure to open up. Decanting for 20–30 minutes may help soften the tannins and bring out the wine’s herbal and fruity nuances.
Producer
Orestiadi is closely associated with the cultural and wine renaissance of Gibellina in western Sicily, a region known for its resilience and creative renewal. The producer has helped bring attention to local grape varieties and the distinctive identity of the area, contributing to the broader revival of native Sicilian wines. Its focus on indigenous expression and regional character has made it an important name in showcasing modern Sicilian viticulture.
