Description
Tenuta Paolo Scavino Dolcetto d’Alba 2023 is a fresh and characterful red from one of the historic estates of Piedmont’s Barolo country. Made from Dolcetto, a grape known for its vibrant fruit and gentle bitterness, it offers an approachable alternative to the region’s more structured Nebbiolo wines. The Scavino family has been producing wine in Castiglione Falletto since 1921, combining deep local knowledge with modern winemaking techniques.
Tasting Notes
The wine has a bright purple colour and an inviting, delicate bouquet of ripe cherries, blueberries, floral notes and subtle spice. On the palate, it is light in structure yet pleasantly expressive, with attractive tannins and harmonious acidity lending the wine energy and freshness. Its balanced, fruit-driven style makes it enjoyable in its youth, when the aromas and lively character are at their most vibrant.
Production
Produced in Piedmont’s Alba area, the wine reflects the region’s varied hillside terroirs and the Scavino family’s careful approach to vineyard management. The Dolcetto grapes are harvested with attention to freshness and fruit purity, then vinified to preserve their delicate aromas, lively acidity and supple tannins. Specific technical details regarding harvesting and maturation are not provided.
Food & Serving
Serve slightly cool, at around 14–16°C, to highlight its freshness and juicy fruit. It is a versatile partner for antipasti, cured meats, pizza, pasta with tomato-based sauces, mushroom dishes and lighter poultry preparations. Decanting is not necessary, although opening the bottle shortly before serving can allow its floral and fruity aromas to develop.
Producer
Tenuta Paolo Scavino was founded in 1921 in Castiglione Falletto and is now led by Enrico Scavino together with his daughters, Enrica and Elisa. The estate owns 29 hectares of vineyards and also works with historic Barolo sites across Castiglione Falletto, Barolo, La Morra, Novello, Serralunga d’Alba, Verduno and Roddi. With more than six decades of experience in the family’s modern history, Paolo Scavino is recognised for expressing the character of Piedmont’s individual terroirs through wines of complexity, elegance and regional identity.
