Description
Tenuta Paolo Scavino Barolo Rocche Annunziata 2015 is a distinguished single-vineyard Barolo from one of La Morra’s historic crus, crafted from Nebbiolo with the precision and restraint for which the Scavino family is renowned. Founded in Castiglione Falletto in 1921, the estate combines traditional Barolo character with carefully controlled modern winemaking, allowing the personality of the Rocche Annunziata terroir to shine through.
Tasting Notes
The wine displays a luminous garnet-red colour, already showing subtle brick-red reflections with age. Its aromatic profile is refined and complex, offering ripe red cherries, raspberry, dried rose petals and violet, followed by notes of liquorice, sweet spice, forest floor and gently integrated oak.
On the palate, the 2015 vintage is generous and structured, with concentrated red-fruit flavours, savoury nuances and fresh acidity. Firm yet polished tannins provide classic Barolo grip, while the long, persistent finish reveals spice, earth and mineral tones. It is approachable with decanting now, but has the structure and balance to develop further over the next decade or more under good cellar conditions.
Production
Produced from Nebbiolo grown in the Rocche Annunziata cru in La Morra, an area known for elegant, aromatic Barolo with refined tannins. The grapes are destemmed and crushed before undergoing skin maceration for approximately 10–12 days and alcoholic fermentation for around 20–30 days in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Natural fermentation is followed by malolactic fermentation in 225-litre oak barrels. The wine is matured for 10 months in French oak, followed by 12 months in larger casks, then blended in stainless steel and given a further period of bottle ageing before release.
Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C in a large Burgundy or Barolo glass to allow its perfume and structure to unfold. Decant for approximately 1–2 hours when serving now, particularly with a younger bottle, while older examples should be handled gently and decanted only shortly before serving. Its combination of freshness, tannin and depth makes it an excellent match for braised beef, osso buco, game, truffle dishes, porcini mushrooms, aged hard cheeses and traditional Piedmontese cuisine.
