Tenuta Paolo Scavino’s Barolo Ravera 2017 is a refined expression of Nebbiolo from one of Novello’s most distinguished crus. Founded in 1921 in Castiglione Falletto, the family-owned estate is celebrated for producing terroir-driven Barolo that combines traditional character with carefully applied modern techniques.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a luminous garnet-red colour, with the gradual brick-red hues typical of mature Nebbiolo. Its aromatic profile is layered and elegant, offering red berries, rose petals and violets alongside notes of liquorice, dried herbs, spice and a subtle earthy complexity. On the palate, the 2017 vintage is concentrated yet poised, balancing ripe cherry and raspberry flavours with savoury nuances, lively acidity and the firm, refined tannins characteristic of Barolo. The finish is long and persistent, with hints of spice and mineral freshness. It is already rewarding with decanting, while its structure and balance should allow it to develop beautifully over the next 10–15 years, or longer in excellent cellaring conditions.

Production
Ravera is a renowned Barolo cru in the commune of Novello, known for producing Nebbiolo with freshness, aromatic precision and notable structure. Paolo Scavino farms a broad collection of historic vineyards across the Barolo region, allowing the character of each site to remain central to the final wine. The grapes are carefully selected and harvested at optimal ripeness before being vinified with a focus on preserving the fruit, complexity and individual identity of the Ravera terroir.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 18°C. Decant for 1–2 hours when drinking now to soften the tannins and reveal the wine’s aromatic depth; older bottles may benefit from gentle decanting to separate any sediment. Its structure and savoury character make it an excellent match for braised beef, roasted game, lamb, truffle dishes, mushroom risotto and mature hard cheeses.

Paolo Scavino was established in 1921 in Castiglione Falletto and remains in family hands, today led by Enrico Scavino together with his daughters Enrica and Elisa. The estate owns 29 hectares of vineyards and cultivates historic Barolo sites in Castiglione Falletto, Barolo, La Morra, Novello, Serralunga d’Alba, Verduno and Roddi. With more than six decades dedicated to selecting and expressing outstanding Nebbiolo crus, the winery has earned a strong reputation for powerful, elegant and distinctly terroir-focused Barolo.
