Tenuta Paolo Scavino Barolo Prapò 2021 is a refined expression of Nebbiolo from one of Piedmont’s most respected historic estates. Sourced from the Prapò cru in Serralunga d’Alba, it combines the power and structure typical of the commune with Scavino’s hallmark precision, elegance and terroir-driven character. The winery was founded in 1921, giving this Barolo a place within more than a century of family winemaking tradition.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a bright garnet-red colour with the characteristic brick-red nuances that develop in Nebbiolo. The nose is layered and expressive, revealing red cherries, wild berries and dried flowers alongside hints of rose, liquorice, spices and subtle earthy notes. The palate is concentrated yet finely balanced, with vibrant acidity, firm, polished tannins and a long, savoury finish. Fruit, floral tones and gentle spice remain in harmony, while the wine’s structure promises excellent development in bottle. Enjoyable with decanting now, it should gain further complexity over the next 10–20 years when well stored.

Production
The Prapò cru lies in Serralunga d’Alba, an area renowned for producing particularly structured and long-lived Barolo. Its calcareous-clay marl soils help give the Nebbiolo depth, mineral tension and firm tannins. The grapes are carefully harvested and vinified to preserve the individual character of the vineyard, followed by maturation designed to integrate the wine’s fruit, structure and aromatic complexity. As with Scavino’s other Barolo wines, the approach combines respect for traditional Piedmontese identity with precise, modern cellar techniques.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 18 °C after allowing the bottle to come gradually to temperature. A decanting time of one to two hours is recommended for the 2021 vintage, particularly when enjoyed young; older bottles should be decanted carefully to remove any sediment. Its structure and savoury depth make it an excellent partner for braised beef, game, truffle dishes, osso buco, mushroom risotto and mature hard cheeses.

Tenuta Paolo Scavino was established in 1921 in Castiglione Falletto and remains a family-run estate led by Enrico Scavino together with his daughters, Enrica and Elisa. The family owns around 29 hectares of vineyards and also works with historic Barolo sites across Castiglione Falletto, Barolo, La Morra, Novello, Serralunga d’Alba, Verduno and Roddi. With a long-standing focus on cru Nebbiolo, the estate is recognised for producing powerful yet elegant Barolo wines that express the distinctive character of each vineyard.
